A Birth Doula Workshop
October 3 - 5, 2008

This Birth Doula Workshop has been approved as one step toward certification as a doula by DONA International and includes the following:
Prerequisites for this course:
1. Read at least 1 of the following books from Childbirth Category of the DONA Certification reading list:
· Douglas, The Mother of All Pregnancy Books: The Ultimate Guide to Conception, Birth and Everything in Between*
· Kitzinger, The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth, revised*
· Simkin, Whalley & Keppler, Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn, The Complete Guide, revised *
AND one from this category:
Labor Support
· Klaus, Klaus, & Kennell, The Doula Book*
· Simkin, The Birth Partner: Everything You Need to Know to Help a Woman through Childbirth*

2. Briefly describe the births of your own children. If you have not given birth, please write a paragraph describing your experience with birth. Mail this in with your registration form.
3. This workshop assumes you already have a basic knowledge of labor & birth as would be covered in a standard childbirth education series. If you do not have this knowledge you should, a) attend a childbirth education series OR b) attend the Introduction to Childbirth for Doulas class on May 3 or c) read one book from the Childbirth category and one book from the Labor Support category.
4. Have a passion for the beauty and miracle of birth, and a genuine respect for women.
The workshop schedule is as follows:
Friday, October 3

Saturday, October 4
8:00 a.m. 12:15 p.m.

Lunch is on your own. A map of local restaurants will be provided. Books, birth balls massagers, hot sox, and other doula accessories will be available for purchase at the workshop.
Starting Saturday, please bring a mat, sleeping bag or blanket to sit on and 2 large pillows (bed pillows). Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement and comfort. We practice what we preach!
Nursing babies are welcome. If your baby is active (crawls) or is vocal, please make arrangements for someone to help you care for your baby at or away from the workshop.

Cost of workshop is $325.00 if postmarked by Sept 12 and $375.00 after. This includes all training materials, continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and afternoon snacks and beverages.
